Mrs. Lawlor was known countrywide in the hotel and catering business since 1913. She had built a business that catered at the RDS Spring show, Horseshow, Punchestown, The Curragh and Galway Races. Her reputation was excellent and her business thrived. Long before the days of Women’s Liberation, Mrs. Lawlor was one of the country’s leading businesswomen, known not only in Co. Kildare but throughout the length and breadth of Ireland as a major catering enterprise.

Mrs Lawlor's Brown Bread
Makes 1 tin
375g extra coarse whole meal flour
1tsp bread soda
0.5 tsp sugar
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 tbsp oil
330ml buttermilk
2 tsp wheat bran
1 tsp wheat grain
Bake at 175°C for 55 mins
